ella+elliot™ is bringing modern design’s simple lines, along with functionality and sustainability, to all objects affecting the first few years of the life of a child. They believe that less is more: fewer products - more functions, more natural and sustainable materials.

ella+elliot™ opened its doors in November 2006 in Toronto as a new store concept for parents-to-be looking for modern, yet functional and sustainable nursery furniture that would integrate with their lifestyle. ella+elliot™ is a leader in bringing new designs for babies and kids to the city. The store has been rated best baby store in the city on several occasions, and appears regularly in television, print and online media.

ella+elliot™ has grown to offer the largest selection of modern design for babies in Canada and now includes modern solutions for big kids, as well as professional design services.

ella+elliot™ went online in 2009 to meet customers’ needs and wants nationally. ella+elliot™ is about to open a second location in Vancouver.

ella+elliot™ strives to provide modern design’s simple lines along with functionality and sustainability to all objects affecting the first few years of a child, and beyond. ella+elliot™ has become a one-stop-shop experience, allowing those who believe that less is more to find all they need for a baby in an edited environment.

The husband-and-wive founders of ella+elliot™, respectively from France and Canada, were inspired to create the concept store by their then-newborn child and their appreciation for both mid-20th Century design and French antiques. Their search for nursery furniture in Canada eight years ago was a challenge, especially after living in Amsterdam for two years, as the designs they fell in love with in Europe were simply not available for Canadians. Both founders credit their appreciation for modern design to their travels to Africa – being exposed to primitive art’s simple lines – and to being exposed to their neighbour’s house in the French Alps, designed by Charlotte Perriand.

Since 1944 Elte has grown to become one of the worlds finest home furnishing suppliers and has been honored as Retailer of the Year in both Canada and The United States.

In 1919 in Paris France, Léon Tenenbaum founded a company that would eventually become a leader in retailing home furnishings. His vision, to bring unique home furnishings items from around the world has remained true through the fourth generation and in 2009, we celebrated our 90th anniversary.

Elte’s family legacy began more than 90 years ago when Léon Tenenbaum opened the original Establishments Elte in Paris. His initials LT formed the root of the firm’s name.

During World War II Léon and his family fled soon to be occupied France and moved to Canada where they made their new home. In 1944 Elte and Sons launched on Toronto’s Bay Street and has earned a reputation as Canada’s leading importer of fine quality rugs.

In 1953 Elte moved to Wellington Street (now the TD centre), in 1964 to Kendal Avenue just south of Casa Loma and in 1978 to Eastern Avenue just north of the Distillery District, led by the successive leadership of Léon, his son Andre and son-in-law Fred Metrick who married Léon’s daughter Cecile in 1953. Now in its fourth generation, Elte stands proudly at the corner of Castlefield and Ronald and is led by Ken, the founder’s grandson, along with his sons Jamie and Andrew. Elte’s spectacular showroom is one of North America’s largest retail establishments with over 200,000 square feet of space, housed in two buildings.

Since 1944 Elte has grown to become one of the worlds finest home furnishing suppliers adding Ginger’s, Summerhill Hardware, Furniture, Linens, Lighting along with Rugs and Broadloom and has been honored as Retailer of the Year in both Canada and The United States.

Léon was passionate about bringing the best products from around the world and we continue to follow his tradition 90 years later, procuring the very best in home furnishings for our customers.

Elte is making great strides to becoming a “greener” company. We are open to new ways of doing business if it means being eco-friendly and socially responsible. We carry a number of “green” product collections with more to come.

In addition to our eco-friendly collections, we are changing our business practices to further protect our environment and reduce our carbon footprint.
